Intro To Meditation, Pema Chödrön & Midlife Power Grains – The Recipes
Meditation, Buddhism and Pema Chodron
Buddhism for me is not so much a spiritual path but a manual for living. Its teachings on dealing with anger, frustration and aggression are for me essential for the world we live in now, where you are not just trying to avoid your own burn out but also trying to navigate everyone else’s burn out.
One of the most accessible teachers on Buddhism I have found is Pema Chödrön. She provides practical, straightforward advice and practices and is a good writer. Books such as When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice For Difficult Times and The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times speak for themselves. Her book How To Meditate is a great introduction to basic meditation - it’s short, can be read over a weekend and it covers everything from how to sit to the basics of a simple meditation practice.
“When something is bothering you―a person is bugging you, a situation is irritating you, or physical pain is troubling you―you must work with your mind, and that is done through meditation. Working with our mind is the only means through which we’ll actually begin to feel happy and contented with the world that we live in.” ―Pema Chödrön
